Oregon Consensus was asked by the City of Beaverton, Oregon, to assist with the convening and facilitation of the Beaverton Climate Action Task Force. The purpose of the task force is to enhance city council awareness of community perspectives related to climate change issues, help the city communicate its climate message to the community, and to ensure the perspectives of community members are considered by city leadership as decisions are made around city-sponsored climate action activities and programs including the city’s ongoing commitment to the Beaverton Climate Action Plan (BCAP). Oregon Consensus conducted a series of assessment interviews with city council members and department heads to better understand expectations and aspirations for the task force. Oregon Consensus also partnered with the task force’s city staff liaison to plan and facilitate the first six monthly meetings of the group, assisting the group to develop operating principles and select leadership.
